Studio Membership

Membership at Clay Shed is designed to help build your confidence and develop your skills as a maker. You will be part of a growing and nurturing community of artists who share knowledge and offer support. 

You’ll have access to technical training from our experienced team and ongoing mentoring to help broaden your expertise. Participating in our annual open studios event will also provide opportunities to sell work and network amongst the wider community. 

Our membership packages are suitable for complete beginners as well as professional makers. We welcome applications if you’ve undertaken a beginners course with us or somewhere else and now feel confident to work independently in a ceramic studio.

Monthly rolling subscription | three month term minimum | six week notice period

Part-time Membership

The monthly subscription includes:

+ Up to 15 hours of studio time per week

+ Choose between one storage shelf equivalent to 1.7 meters squared or two storage shelves equivalent to 3.4 meters squared to store tools and materials

Firings are conducted by the Clay Shed team and are charged as an additional cost. Studio Members buy their own clay and materials.

1 x shelf £155 per month

2 x shelves £190 per month

 

Full-time Membership

The monthly subscription includes:

+ Unlimited 24/7 access to the studio

+ A personal shelving unit with five shelves

Full-time members fire their own work and buy their own clay and materials - full kiln training is provided. Firings are charged as an additional cost.

£215 per month

Full-time membership is fully subscribed

 

Tech Exchange Member

Our Tech Exchange membership is an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in developing technical skills and gaining first-hand insight into the running of a successful ceramics studio. 

You’ll receive free Studio Membership in exchange for 4 hours of hands-on technical support each week. We’ll teach you how to manage the day-to-day tasks of a studio, including health and safety, mixing glazes, reclaiming clay, kiln loading and maintenance. 

Applicants should have a basic knowledge of making and glazing procedures and know how to work safely in a studio environment.

We are currently advertising for a Tech Exchange Member. Application deadline Midnight 29th May 2024.

Studio Facilities

Our facilities include:

  • 7 x Shimpo pottery wheels

  • Slab-roller

  • Glasdstone Extruder with dies

  • Slip casting table

  • Glazing spray booth

  • Areas for glaze mixing and plaster work

  • 4 x electric kilns ranging from 60 - 290 litres

  • 4 x large tables

Members can reserve group working spaces and equipment via our app, ensuring that you can access the equipment you need in advance of your studio time.

We provide communal storage for work in progress, ensuring that you have enough space in your personal storage for your tools and equipment.

Our communal facilities include a kitchen - with fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster - as well as WC facilities and WiFi.
