Residency at Clay Shed
Clay Shed’s Project Residency supports ceramicists, potters, and artists seeking dedicated time and space to develop a short-term project. Designed for makers with existing experience in clay, the residency provides a professional environment for research, experimentation and the creation of new work. Residencies typically last between one and three months.
Residents work within our well-resourced studio, benefiting from:
24/7 access to communal facilities and equipment
A personal storage unit (5 shelves, equivalent to 1.7m²)
A £50 kiln firing credit for the duration of the project
Studio orientation and induction for safe, independent use
Each month, residents receive a dedicated one-hour tutorial with an experienced member of our team, offering critical conversation, guidance, and support in resolving ideas. Technical assistance and contextual feedback are also available throughout your residency.
Clay Shed is a collaborative and supportive community, and residents are encouraged to engage with the wider studio during their time here.
Applications are open to artists who are confident working independently in a specialist ceramics environment. We welcome discussions about your proposed project and how it might take shape at Clay Shed.
Our project residency is intended for short term projects for periods of 1 to 3 months. We offer discounted rates for projects lasting more than 1 month.
1 month - £315
2 months - £567 (10% discount equivalent to £283.50pcm)
3 months - £756 (20% discount equivalent to £256pcm)
Payment must be made in full before the start date of your project. A £50 refundable deposit is required to secure the space.

Residencies are open to experienced makers who are confident working independently in a ceramics specialist environment. Applicants should have prior experience with clay and a clear project proposal.
International applicants are welcome, but you must ensure you have the correct documentation to enter and work in the UK. Please note that the residency is studio access only and does not meet the requirements for formal employment in the UK.
