Tech Exchange Membership
The role
The Clay Shed Tech Exchange is an exciting opportunity for early career makers or recent graduates to access ceramic specialist facilities, join a thriving community of ceramic artists, develop technical skills and gain first-hand insights into the running of a successful ceramics studio.
The successful applicant will receive up to 15 hours of fully subsidised studio time per week in order to develop their own creative potential and technical skills.
What will you be doing?
The post holder will undertake technical day-to-day tasks around the studio, including health & safety, mixing glazes, clay management, kiln firing and kiln maintenance.
The post holder will be proactive in prioritising tasks to ensure the smooth running of the studio to work independently to identify and suggest changes in procedures and systems.
The post holder will have 15 hours of access to the studio and its facilities per week to undertake personal projects.

This role will allow the post holder to develop a holistic understanding of how a modern day ceramic studio operates and to gain a broad understanding of the diverse and exciting potential of clay.
It will suit applicants who have previous experience of operating in a ceramic studio and have a preexisting understanding of clay, kiln firing and glazing processes.
The post holder will have an ability to work independently in finding solutions and improving existing systems and to make a positive impact on the community of the studio and its members.

Our strategy and mission
Developing the confidence and skills of ceramic makers is a cornerstone of Clay Shed’s values. We are excited to be able to offer a Tech Exchange membership which will sit alongside the ways we support our members and community. Since opening in 2019 we’ve provided studio access to over 60 artists and makers, developed and delivered Graduate Residency Programmes, provided opportunities for contextual and technical development and devised artists talks and workshops.
