Our All Levels Ceramics Course at Clay Shed, Bristol is an exciting opportunity to explore the world of clay. Designed for both complete beginners and experienced potters, this 6-week course covers handbuilding, wheel throwing, and surface decoration techniques in a supportive, creative environment.
Each session includes demonstrations, time for self-directed making, and one-to-one support from our experienced tutor, Erikia Faggiani. You’ll be encouraged to explore your own ideas in clay while building skills and confidence.
Over 6 weeks, you’ll explore:
• Handbuilding – pinching, coiling, and slab building
• Throwing on the potter’s wheel
• Surface decoration – texture, slip, colour, and glazing
In the final session, you’ll glaze your work and prepare it for kiln firing.
Beginners will:
Learn foundational handbuilding techniques and surface decoration
Be introduced to wheel throwing basics – centring, pulling walls, and forming simple shapes
More experienced potters can:
Work independently on self-initiated projects
Refine throwing techniques and experiment with form and decoration
Get support on more complex forms and surface design
