All Levels Pottery - Wednesdays 10am-12.30pm
Learn essential pottery and ceramics techniques in a supportive, creative environment.
Our All Levels Pottery course at Clay Shed, Bristol welcomes both complete beginners and experienced potters. Guided by our experienced tutor Erika Faggiani, you’ll gain practical skills in handbuilding, wheel throwing, and surface decoration while creating pieces you’ll be proud to take home. Small class sizes (maximum 7 students) ensure focused, personalised support, allowing you to work at your own pace and explore your own ideas in clay.
What you’ll learn
Over six sessions, the course covers a wide range of skills:
Handbuilding: pinching, coiling, and slab construction
Wheel throwing: taster sessions covering centring, pulling walls, and forming simple shapes
Surface decoration: texture, coloured slips, underglaze, and glazing
Final session: glaze your pieces and prepare them for kiln firing, leaving finished work to take home
Beginners will:
Learn foundational handbuilding techniques and decorating methods
Be introduced to basic wheel throwing for simple forms
Experienced potters will:
Work independently on self-initiated projects
Refine throwing techniques, forms, and surface design
Receive guidance on more complex pieces and experimental decoration
Many students choose to repeat this course to continue developing skills, explore new techniques, or work on larger or more complex pieces. Returning students are supported at their own pace and encouraged to set personal goals.
