Already confident centring clay and throwing basic forms? Our Improvers Throwing pottery course at Clay Shed, Bristol is designed for students with previous wheel-throwing experience who are looking to refine skills and improve consistency.
Taught by professional potter Alex McCarthy, this 6-week improvers throwing course focuses on developing technical accuracy and production techniques in a supportive, small-group setting.
You’ll learn to:
Batch throw cylinders, mugs, bowls and jugs to set dimensions
Upscale volume of clay and throw repeat forms
Trim and turn your work for a clean finish
Create galleries and lids
Pull handles for mugs and jugs
Glaze and kiln-prep your pieces in the final session
With demonstrations, one-to-one feedback, and weekly encouragement for self-reflection, you'll leave the course with stronger skills and work you're proud of.
