Beginners Throwing - Fridays 10am-12.30pm
Our Throwing for Beginners pottery course at Clay Shed, Bristol is the perfect starting point for anyone wanting to explore the art of throwing on the potter’s wheel. Whether you're a complete beginner or someone looking to refresh your skills, our course offers a welcoming and supportive environment designed to build confidence and skills.
Our experienced throwing tutor Alice Shields will help to nurture your technique through guided tuition and practical demonstrations. Additional processes will be introduced each week to enhance your understanding of what’s happening with the wheel, your body and the clay. Our focus each week will be to develop an understanding of how these three components work together.
What you’ll learn over 6 sessions
Centering clay on the wheel
Throwing fundamental forms such as cylinders and bowls
Pulling handles
Turning foot rings
Glazing pots ready for firing
Many students choose to repeat this course to continue developing their skills and confidence. Returning students are supported at their own level and encouraged to set new personal goals each time.
Who is this course for?
Complete beginners with no prior experience
Those with some previous throwing experience who want to refresh or strengthen their foundational skills
